any tips on how to make a costume hat bigger? i have bought my daughter a halloween costume where the tall wizard hat is supposed to sit on her shoulders and she looks through a see through part, but the hat doesnt quite reach her shoulders as the hat is a little tight on her head and doesnt pull down properly. so any tips on how to alter this?

I don't sew, but this is just cone technology from my high school geometry class and a desire to help: undo the seam (or slice up the back of the hat with scissors) until you get the fit you need. (I assume it's close, and not drastic).

Then cut from a similar material a wedge, with two triangle sides and a curved bottom to match the rim side of the hat.

(The sides will be the length og the gap you great, and the bottom will be to fill in the added circumference you need.)

Buy that no-sew iron-on tape stuff ( http://sewing.about.com/od/fusibles/ss/fusibleoptions.htm ) and use that to secure the gap patch, then maybe stitch the edges and/or add reinforcement bands of a heavier material to back-up the work so it holds up to being worn.

Good luck.

It might be ultra weird to make a hat with a specified dimension any better. Are you sporting your hair in a different way now, like shorter or closer to the pinnacle which would make any hat appear slightly larger? Idk...

try ripping the seams and sewing it back together with more room. but that would be difficult for someone who doesn't know how to sew. SO ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SEW! good day
